Port Blair, Sep 20: The fishermen community of the Dairy farm region is facing a lot of problems because of the non availability of civic toilets in their area. The fishermen colony there at Dairy Farm is quite congested and it is quite difficult to construct individual toilets by house owners in the area.
As a result when nature calls many residents of the area go to the sea shore to relieve themselves. Situation has become so bad that it is now almost difficult to walk on the sea shore area of Dairy Farm.
Two years ago Municipal Council had announced construction of a civic toilet and a plaque for the same work was also inaugurated by the then Chairperson of PBMC but till today not even a brick has been placed at the site for the construction of Civic Toilet.
Many won’t believe that nowadays as a mark of protest many residents of the area respond to nature’s call, sitting right infront of the plaque, which was inaugurated two years back announcing construction of Civic Toilet.
The trouble of the public is increasing day by day as the population of the area is also randomly increasing. The area has turned out to be quite unhygienic for living and the beautiful and heart whelming shores have turned into an area of disgust for the Port Blair Town.
Andaman Sheekha contacted Mr. P.B Murugan, Chairperson, PBMC to know why such delay is caused in construction of civic toilet in the area.
Mr. P.B Murugan informed us that it took almost two years to get the CRZ clearance for the toilet block and after the council obtained the CRZ clearance they came to know that for toilets the clearance for CRZ is not required.
He further added that the PBMC after that didn’t had sufficient funds to construct the toilet blocks there and said that in a meeting held recently it was decided that the work of the toilet will be started within one month.
“We have heard such assurance dozens of times in past and presently we don’t have any expectations from PBMC,” said a fisherman of Dairy Farm area.
