Port Blair, Sept 04: The Lt Gen (Retd.) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has said that these Islands are the strategic outpost of the country being 1200 km away from the mainland and occupying a strategic location. Utmost importance is being given by the Govt. of India to strengthen the Andaman Nicobar Command to ensure security of these islands, he said while delivering the inaugural Indira Gandhi Memorial Lecture on ‘National Security and Role of Armed Forces’ held in the auditorium of DBRAIT this evening. The Lt Governor assured that the Administration will extend all possible support to the ANC to meet the security challenges. He highlighted the role of Armed Forces through an audio visual presentation.
During his hour long lecture, the Lt Governor covered topics such as National Security, National Strategy, State of the Nation, role of Armed Forces and leadership in the Armed Forces. Referring to the idea of National security, he said “National security means to provide a safe, secure and conducive environment within the parameters enshrined in the Constitution of India, where individuals can flourish, leading to collective well being of the Nation”.
Later, he held an interactive session with the general public including media persons and defence personnel, and replied to the various questions raised by them. People at large were very appreciative of this initiative of the UT administration, specially the depth of knowledge and vast canvas covered by the distinguished speaker in an easy to comprehend and forthright manner.
In his brief address, the Commander-in-Chief, Andaman Nicobar Command, Air Marshal, P. K. Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM stated that the Tri Command is fully prepared to meet any eventuality. He assured the people of the islands that they are in safe hands as the Command is committed to provide full security.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. Anand Prakash, senior officers of the Civil Administration and Armed Forces, school children, media persons and large number of the people of the Islands were present on the occasion.
