Port Blair, Aug 6: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC along with a delegation of students seeking admission in the JNRM and their parents met the Chief Secretary Mr. Anand Prakash and Mrs. Rina Ray, Principal Secretary (Education) and requested them to continue the 2nd shift of Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakeeya Vidyalaya, Port Blair.
The aspirants and their parents met the PCC Chief at Gandhi Bhavan and narrated their misery of not getting admission in the college due to scarcity of seats since the facility of 2nd shift introduced last year, has been withdrawn.
Mr. Sharma explained the problems of the aspirants to the Chief Secretary and briefed him that last year with much efforts of the Congress Party, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration had introduced the 2nd Shift in Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakiya Vidyalaya under Pondicherry University, which in the current academic session has been withdrawn causing distress to large number of students who have applied for getting admission in various streams in the College.
Mr. Sharma has further stated that as per his information about 2,100 students have applied for getting seat in their desired courses in the College but since the 2nd shift has been withdrawn and there is scarcity of seats in the College, a large number of students have been refused for admission. Batting for the aspirants, Mr. Sharma has stated that the Congress Party always encourages education in the society and also stands beside those students who want to get further education for their secured future.
Mr. Sharma has also stated that “just like how pre-calculus is a perquisite to calculus, so is a college degree to a job. A college degree is something that will act as a pillar to keep people standing”. The Chief Secretary and Mrs. Rina Ray, Principal Secretary, Education have given a patient hearing and assured that within a short period the 2nd shift will be reintroduced in the College for the welfare of the students community.
