Billyground, Aug 01: Those who want to see the doors of hell in this earth must visit the killer road of Pinakinagar Village of Billyground area. Running down a distance of about nine kilometers this road is called the lifeline for a couple of villages situated at Middle Andaman.
Residents use this wretched arterial path way to reach out to the main bazaar for fetching their needs.
Both the District Administration and the Panchayat are well aware about the pathetic condition of the road but the job of getting it repaired is avoided by both the wings of Administration.
The residents of the area had sent a SOS letter to the former Lt. Governor and demanded for urgent repair of the road but the letter was not taken seriously and the residents were left to suffer.
Villagers nowadays feel terrorized even while thinking to use the road because it has become an accident prone zone and nowadays even patients walk down the long stretch because mostly vehicles deny crossing the tattered road to reach out to far flung areas.
After receiving complaint when Andaman Sheekha team reached the killer road women from nearby houses gathered there and explained us that everyday nearly two to three accidents take place on the said road and most of these accidents occur after the sunset as there is no street light on the said stretch of road.
It was found that along the road there are giant pits, which remain covered under grasses. One such pit is located at the turning and it is impossible for new person to see the pit while driving, which often leads to serious accidents.
When, Andaman Sheekha contacted the Zilla Parsihad Member of Harinagar Constituency since the road is under Zilla Parishad for its maintenance, the Zillla Parishad Member simply informed us that the work is already awarded to a society and now the society is responsible for carrying out the work. Hope before the Lt. Governor’s visit this blame game will end and the road will be repaired. If not, hope that the Lt. Governor will find some time during his upcoming Middle Andaman tour, to inspect the said road.
