Port Blair, Aug 1: Feeling the nerves of the people of these Islands residing in far flung Islands who stay in the Andaman Guest houses at Kolkata/Chennai or Delhi on urgency, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma,
President, PCC wrote a letter to the Lt Governor for considering reducing the tariff in those guest houses.
In his letter Mr. Sharma wrote that the A & N Administration, for stay of people of these Islands has constructed guest houses at mainland at Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. He also informed him that the Guest houses have been constructed for the welfare of the people of these Islands and for the people of these Islands who proceed to mainland in case of emergency i.e. for treatment purpose in particular and for proceeding to their native places, admission of their children in colleges or other important matters in general.
Mr. Sharma further stated that, as per the present room tariff, a person if allotted a room in Andaman Guest Houses, has to pay Rs. 1000.00 per room per day and in case two persons are occupying the room together then they have to pay Rs. 500.00 per bed each per day.
Whereas prior to revision, the tariff used to be Rs. 100/- per bed for non official stay performed by the Islanders at these guest houses.
He further added that for people proceeding to mainland for treatment, emergency, admission in colleges or for going to native places or to attend any other important works the room tariff is exorbitant and causes additional undue financial burden on them since the people of these islands are already subjected to heavy cost of journey expenses while moving and coming back from mainland Under these circumstances, Mr. Sharma has requested the Administrator to consider restoring the room tariff to Rs. 100/- per bed per person for a day and incase he is the single occupant of the room he/she may not be charged to pay for both the beds available in a room.
