Sri Vijaya Puram, October 30: The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, organised the live telecast of the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme by the Prime Minister of India today. The programme was organised simultaneously at the Institute’s headquarters at Garacharma campus, Sri Vijaya Puram; the Regional Centre at Minicoy, Lakshadweep; and its Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in South Andaman, North and Middle Andaman, and Nicobar districts.
A total of 287 farmers, comprising 184 male and 115 female farmers, participated in the programme across these locations. In addition, 111 institute personnel, including scientists, administrative and technical staff, attended the live telecast, demonstrating the Institute’s commitment to strengthening farmer outreach and promoting agricultural development in the island ecosystems.
Prior to the live telecast, a Scientist–Farmer Interaction Meeting was organised, providing an interactive platform for farmers to discuss their agricultural problems, share experiences and seek expert guidance. Scientists interacted with the farmers and provided suitable technical advisories and practical solutions to various queries raised by them. The interaction focused on addressing farmers’ field-level challenges and encouraging the adoption of improved agricultural practices and technologies.
As part of the programme, various technologies developed by ICAR-CIARI and success stories of progressive farmers were screened. Testimonies of successful farmers highlighting their achievements, experiences and improvements in livelihood through the adoption of scientific farming practices were showcased. The presentations covered various agricultural and allied sectors, including crop production, animal science and fisheries, inspiring fellow farmers to explore new opportunities and adopt innovative technologies for enhancing their farm productivity and income.
The programme provided an important opportunity for farmers and institute personnel across the islands to witness the release of the 24th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to eligible farmer families and strengthen their livelihood security.
