Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 13: Pillar Health Center proudly celebrates its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of dedicated healthcare service to the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands since 1976. What began as a mission of compassion has grown into a trusted healthcare institution committed to providing affordable, accessible and quality medical care to the island communities.
Throughout its five decades of service, Pillar Health Center has remained steadfast in its mission of reaching the sick and needy, especially those who find it difficult to access quality healthcare. Its commitment was evident during the 2004 tsunami, when the institution extended medical assistance to affected communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pillar Hospital also supported the healthcare response by admitting and caring for patients when government hospital facilities were overwhelmed.
Recognizing the growing healthcare needs of the islands, Pillar Health Center has steadily expanded its services and infrastructure. It established the first private dialysis unit in the islands, with six dialysis machines donated by the Rotary Club in 2019. The institution has continued to strengthen its diagnostic and critical care facilities, including the development of an advanced diagnostic center equipped with a 32-slice CT scanner, digital X-ray and other specialized diagnostic services.
Beyond its walls, Pillar Health Center has consistently reached underserved communities through medical outreach programmes, free medical camps and health initiatives, reflecting its belief that healthcare is a service to humanity.
