Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 6:The Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, today paid a courtesy call on the Lt. Governor, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, at Lok Niwas, Sri Vijaya Puram. During the meeting, he requested the Lt. Governor to visit Swaraj Dweep.
The Member of Parliament also requested for reduction in the fare proposed by the Transport Department for the Hop-on Hop-off service. Considering the request of the Member of Parliament and other public representatives, the Lt. Governor approved a reduction in the proposed fare of Rs.100 to Rs. 50 for non-islanders and Rs. 40 for islanders. Under this facility, passengers will be able to travel across the entire island in an AC bus throughout the day by paying the fare only once.
On being apprised of the drinking water problem in Bambooflat, the Lt. Governor approved the proposal for construction of a reservoir with a capacity of 2 crore litres and a pump house at Tsunami Pahad, Bambooflat, at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore.
Further, in response to the request for release of a grant to the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, the Lt. Governor directed that an amount of Rs. 18 crore be released immediately, a press release from Lok Niwas said.
