Port Blair, July 03: The Out Reach Centre of CARI supported by NABARD has conducted training on Improve Rice Practices on 27th June, 2013 at ORC, Diglipur.In the forenoon field visit was made by Dr. R.K. Gautam, HoD, Field Crops, Dr. P.K. Singh, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding) and Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Coordinator, ORC at Subhashgram, Madhupur Keralapuram and Kalipur, wherein the farmers who had taken up demonstration of HYVs of rice viz., Gayatri, CSR-23,36, CARI-3 and Ranjit in their field. Advice on removal of seedling from nursery, use of 2-3 seedling per hill and maintenance of optimum spacing beside other field related problems faced by farmers were given solution and suggestion were made to contact the Zonal office of Department of Agriculture, Diglipur, as an when needed for immediate solution.
In the afternoon Dr. R.K. Gautam, while expressing his happiness on the Modus operandi of the training programme, informed the farmers in length on PoP to be followed for getting better yield. Dr. P.K. Singh, Scientist interacted and gave his input on the seed production programme. Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Coordinator, ORC informed that a total of 53 Front Line Demonstrations is being conducted in different cluster of villages on the selected varieties with a objective to give wider dissemination of the technology. He further informed that the active collaboration of Division of Field Crops in popularizing the High yielding Variety of rice in Diglipur village has given good result. Till date 49 farmers have come forward to purchase the seed material to demonstrate the same in their field. A total of 25 farmers attended the programme. On 28th the team visited Webey village to interact with the Kranes farmer who have preserved the landraces from three generations for the reason being the taste, flavour and yield. The programme was arranged under the guidance of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CARI.
