Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: The Department of Art & Culture will be organizing Heritage Walks in and around Sri Vijaya Puram on a regular basis. The initiative aims to showcase the Islands’ rich historical and cultural legacy and to provide an immersive experience for tourists, residents, students, and heritage enthusiasts. The walk will be conducted by Dr. Pronob Kumar Sircar, Local Historian. The Heritage Walk – World War-II is scheduled to be conducted from 5.30 am to 7 am on Oct. 3. The walk will start from Cellular Jail- Battle of Aberdeen Memorial -Bunker -Andaman Club – Farzand Ali Market – Netaji Club -Zulfikar Ali’s Memorial -Clock Tower – Gandhi Park (Bunker) and conclude at Gandhi Park (Shinto shrine).
The Heritage Walk is open for tourists, students, freelance tourist guides, empaneled guides, representatives of tour operators, and any individual interested in exploring the Islands’ heritage. Through this walk, participants will gain first-hand insights into the history, architecture, and stories of different sites in Sri Vijaya Puram while the local guides and tourism students will get a platform to learn and carry forward these cultural experiences.
