Rangat, September 28: Zilla Parishad Member of Rangat region Mr. Tapas Roy and angry villagers have given the Electricity Department a 48-hour ultimatum to resolve the ongoing power crisis affecting Rangat and surrounding areas.
Speaking after visiting the Rangat Power House with large number of villagers, Mr. Roy said the department had explained that the disruption was caused by a technical fault in the panel board of the power generation system. According to the officials, the equipment is a German-made system and the required component, along with an OEM engineer, is being brought to the Islands. The engineer and spare component are expected to reach Rangat, following which wiring, installation and testing work will be carried out.
Mr. Roy said the department had indicated that the work could take up to two days. “We are giving them 48 hours. The countdown will begin from tomorrow morning, and within that period the power supply from Rangat Power House should be restored,” he said.
He expressed concern over the impact of the prolonged power disruption on students, particularly as examinations are currently underway. He also pointed out that hospitals, communication systems and other essential services depend heavily on reliable electricity.
Mr. Roy further said that if the department failed to restore power within the stipulated 48 hours, residents would consider holding a protest and gheraoing the Rangat Power House. He urged officials to closely monitor the repair work several times a day and maintain coordination with the technical team.
He also raised concerns over delays beyond scheduled load-shedding hours and urged the department to ensure that power cuts do not continue beyond the announced timings.
Mr. Roy said the people of Rangat were willing to cooperate with the department but expected the promised 48-hour deadline to be honoured. He added that the immediate priority was to restore uninterrupted power supply and provide relief to residents facing the ongoing crisis.
In the latest update received by 9:50 PM, engineers from Bangalore-based Woodward Company have reached the Rangat Power House and started troubleshooting the communicators. The engineers have successfully repaired one panel, while repair work on the other panel is currently underway. Our Correspondent adds that uninterrupted power supply to Rangat may resume by tomorrow evening, subject to the successful completion of the ongoing repair work.
