Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 24: Andaman Law College organised a special session on “Scientific Investigation and Scientific Evidence” which was conducted by Mr. Uma Sankar, DANIPS, Principal, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI) on Thursday. He explained the concept and relevance of scientific and forensic evidence that leads to conviction or otherwise.
Law as a discipline can be seen with different facets from the perspectives of an investigation officer, requirements of a prosecutor and the ‘issues’ for a defence counsel, he said. He explained the role of constructive and scientific thinking of the Investigating Officer in visiting the crime scene and collection of evidence and preservation of evidence and producing the same before court to prove the crime beyond reasonable doubt. Connecting the evidence with the crime and its time lines is very crucial to ensure conviction he underlined.
Principal, Andaman Law College Dr PVN Sarma in his welcome address announced that ALC and Police Training Institute are willing to ink a MoU for collaboration in the area of resource sharing and exchange of resource persons between them. Before, the Principal honoured Mr. Uma Shankar with a shawl and memento.
Students Ms. Tanzeela Arif and Ms.P Manisha anchored the session that went on for a couple of hours. Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Inspector and Mr. Abdul Rahman, Sub-Inspector among others from NSCBPTI present. Mr. Md Asif Belal Ansari, Ms. Alqama, Ms. T Varsha, Ms. Akshya RS, Dr. C Balaramalingam and Dr. Rohit Sharma faculty members were present.
