Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 21: A sudden fire broke out at a house in Buniyadabad Basti area in Sri Vijaya Puram on this morning, damaging household belongings and a portion of the house. The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:30 am.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, former Councillor of Buniyadabad area, Mr. K. Ganeshan, confirmed that the fire was reported from the area this morning.
According to preliminary information from sources, a geyser had been switched on to heat water when the fire suddenly broke out and spread to a portion of the premises.
Family members, with the help of neighbours, attempted to control the situation and alerted the Fire Services Department. Fire personnel and Chatham Police reached the spot soon after and initiated firefighting efforts. Local residents also helped move household belongings out of the house.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The exact cause of the fire and extent of the damage are being assessed. A geyser or electrical-related issue is suspected as a preliminary possibility, while the actual cause will be established after investigation.
