Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 21: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted an awareness training programme on Pig Farming under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) at Chota Enaka, Kamorta, with the participation of 14 farmers.
The programme was graced by Mr. Mosses, 1st Captain, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he encouraged the participants to actively take part in the training and adopt the knowledge gained for improving pig production and household income.
During the session, the farmers were imparted basic knowledge on scientific pig farming practices, including proper housing, balanced feeding, breeding management, hygiene, disease prevention and overall farm management. Special emphasis was also given to value addition of pork products such as bacon, ham and sausage for enhancing farmers’ income.
The programme concluded with an encouraging response from the farmers, who expressed their keen interest in adopting scientific livestock-rearing practices for improved production and sustainable livelihood. The Department of AH&VS remains committed to organising such training programmes under NLM to promote scientific pig farming among tribal and rural communities in the Islands, a press release from Dept. of AH&VS said.
