Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 21: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted two demonstration programmes under UT-ATMA for the benefit of local farmers in South Andaman.
A demonstration on Brooder Management was organised on 18th September 2026 at the residence of Mrs. Tulina Halder, Namunaghar, with the participation of five local farmers. The demonstration focused on constructing a low-cost brooder and highlighted the importance of brooding during the early stages of a chick’s life for better survival and growth. Various aspects related to scientific poultry farming were also discussed. The farmer was provided with waterers, feeders and poultry feed to support improved chick management at the farm level.
A demonstration on Silage Making was conducted on 19th September 2026 at the residence of Mr. Ram Chander, Habdipur, with the participation of five local farmers. The demonstration focused on the method of silage preparation, the importance of silage in cattle ration, and how to preserve green grass for use during the lean period. Other aspects related to livestock feeding and farm management were also discussed with the participating farmers.
These field-level demonstrations form part of the Department’s continuous efforts under UT-ATMA to promote scientific poultry and livestock farming practices and to ensure better availability of quality feed and improved animal productivity in the Islands, a press release from Dept. of AH&VS said.c
