Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 20: On 18.09.2026 at 1520 hrs, two young boys had been swept away along with their scooty by heavy floodwaters while attempting to cross a culvert inundated by a swollen river near Mecca Pahad, Burmanallah.
Acting swiftly upon receipt of the information, Police Station Pahargaon immediately alerted the Fire & Emergency Services and Police Marine Force and rushed to the spot. On reaching the location, it was found that the two youths had been swept into the fast-flowing river and had become trapped amidst dense mangrove vegetation in the middle of the river.
Displaying exceptional courage and presence of mind, a joint team of Police and Fire & Emergency Services personnel entered the turbulent river waters using ropes and life buoys and, despite the strong current and difficult terrain, successfully reached the trapped victims and pulled them to safety.
The daring rescue operation was carried out by SI Mr. Ayub Bux, SI Mr. B. Sasi Kumar, Head Constable (Fire) Mr. Shyam Kujur, Mr. Augustus Toppo, Mr. Raj Kumar, Mr. Chandan Karmakar, Head Constable (Exe) Mr. Alexus Toppo, Mr. Majeed, Mr. Sameer, Mr. Santosh, Mr. Abdul Gafoor, Mr. Pradeep and Home Guard Mr. Prem Ch. Srivastav.
The rescue operation was coordinated by Insp. Mr. Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO, PS Pahargaon, under the direct supervision of Mrs. Shweta Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, and Mr.Deependar Kumar Singh, SDPO, South Andaman.
The swift response, exemplary coordination and fearless intervention of the Police and Fire & Emergency Services personnel ensured that the two youths were rescued safely from a highly dangerous situation. The operation reflects the commitment of the South Andaman Police and allied emergency services towards protecting life and responding promptly to emergencies, particularly during adverse weather and flood conditions.
