
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Sri Vijaya Puram, observed World Ozone Day with an environmental awareness programme to sensitise students about the importance of the ozone layer and environmental protection.
Dr. K. Silambarasan, Scientist-B, Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, delivered an expert lecture on the significance of the ozone layer, causes and impacts of ozone depletion, and the need for collective environmental action.
Dr. Romila, Programme Officer, EIACP, Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, spoke on ozone layer depletion and the Montreal Protocol, emphasising the importance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—for environmental protection.
Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal, JNRM, emphasised the importance of environmental awareness among students and encouraged them to adopt sustainable and responsible practices.
Faculty members and students from the Departments of Geography, Botany and Zoology actively participated in the programme. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ravi Jhurawat and Dr. Punam Tripathi and concluded with pledge to keep the environment clean and green.
