Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over the coming days.
On Wednesday, September 16, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Similar weather conditions are expected on Thursday, September 17, with heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Friday, September 18, very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely at one or two places over the islands. On Saturday, September 19, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands, accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Sunday, September 20, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places.
Fishermen Warning: The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coasts during September 16–18, as squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, occasionally reaching 55 kmph, is likely to prevail.
Farmer Warning: On September 16, heavy rain of 7–11 cm is likely over the Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
On September 17, heavy rain of 7–11 cm along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph is likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
