Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 14: The Directorate of Social Welfare, State Child Protection Society (SCPS) under Mission Vatsalya, organized a Swachhata Awareness Programme for children from Government-run and NGO-run Child Care Institutions (CCIs) under the theme “UDAAN: My Voice, My Dream, My Future – Towards a Clean and Healthy Tomorrow” on 12th September, 2026 (Saturday) from 10.AM to 1.00 PM at Seva Niketan, Child Care Institution Dairy Farm, Sri Vijaya Puram.
A total of 159 beneficiaries, comprising children and staff from various Government-run and NGO-run Child Care Institutions, participated in the programme. The participating institutions included Balika Niketan, Capstone, Love Children Home, Apostolic needy children home, Pranab Kanya Sangha and Darusalam Yatheem Khana. The programme provided the children with an opportunity to come together, participate in creative activities and share their ideas on cleanliness, hygiene and a healthy environment.
As part of the UDAAN Programme, children participated in various creative competitions on themes related to cleanliness and healthy living, including a Drawing/Painting Competition on “My Clean & Healthy World”, a Slogan Writing Competition on “Cleanliness Begins with Me”, and an Essay Writing Competition on “Importance of Cleanliness and Personal Hygiene in Our Life”. These activities encouraged children to express their thoughts and creativity while developing awareness about cleanliness, personal hygiene and the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The programme was graced by Mr. Mohit Mishra, Director, Social Welfare, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the children, the Director encouraged them to participate confidently in such programmes and highlighted the importance of providing children with regular opportunities to showcase their talents, express their views and develop confidence and communication skills. He also emphasized that such child-centric programmes should be organized on a larger platform and at a wider level so that children from different institutions get greater opportunities to participate, interact and showcase their abilities.
Mrs. Uma Devi, Programme Officer (ICDS), interacted with the participating children and appreciated the initiative, encouraging them to adopt good habits relating to cleanliness, personal hygiene and healthy living.
Mrs. Komal Anand, Founder, PANK NGO, appreciated the enthusiasm and talent displayed by the children and encouraged them to participate confidently in constructive activities and develop their talents and abilities.
The programme highlighted that cleanliness begins with individual responsibility. The children were sensitized on personal hygiene, cleanliness of their surroundings, responsible waste disposal and healthy daily practices. As part of the programme, Swachhata Kits were distributed to all participating children.
The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Rehaneth Begum, Programme Manager, SCPS, and formed part of the State Child Protection Society’s continued efforts to promote child participation, creativity, self-expression, confidence building and holistic development of children residing in Child Care Institutions.
Mr. A. Chakraborty, In-charge, Seva Niketan, appreciated the initiative and stated that such programmes provide children with valuable opportunities to participate, learn and showcase their talents. He expressed hope that similar programmes would be organized on a wider scale in the future.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Ashok Kumar Biswas, Nodal Officer, Mission Vatsalya Scheme, who expressed gratitude to the officials, NGOs, Child Care Institutions, participating children and all stakeholders for their support and participation. The programme concluded with the message that Swachhata is a daily responsibility and that children can play an important role in building a cleaner, healthier and better society.
