Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 30: Two demonstrations under UTATMA were successfully conducted under the jurisdiction of Veterinary Dispensary, Katchal, at the fields of farmers viz. Mr. S. Samson and Mr. Vishweswar Naik.
The first demonstration focused on ‘Dairy Farm Waste Management’, where farmers were sensitized on the proper collection, handling and utilization of cattle dung and other farm waste. Emphasis was given to converting dairy waste into useful resources such as compost and organic manure, maintaining cleanliness around the farm, reducing foul odor and preventing environmental pollution and disease spread.
The second demonstration was on ‘Preparation and Cultivation of Azolla’, wherein farmers were practically demonstrated the preparation of an Azolla bed, suitable growing conditions, maintenance and harvesting methods. The benefits of Azolla as a nutritious supplementary feed for livestock and poultry, particularly its protein-rich nature and potential to reduce feed costs, were explained.
Both beneficiaries actively participated in the demonstrations and interacted with the resource persons, seeking practical guidance on adopting these low-cost and sustainable practices.
