Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 14: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has called for nationwide demonstrations on August 17, demanding resolution of long-pending workers’ issues, including higher minimum pension, increased ESI and EPF limits, better bonus and gratuity provisions, minimum wages linked to the cost of living, equal pay for contract workers, filling of government vacancies, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and an early Indian Labour Conference. BMS has also opposed provisions of the IR and OSH&WC Codes and sought discussions with Central Trade Unions.
In the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, protests will be held jointly with various workers’ organisations in Campbell Bay, Car Nicobar, Hutbay, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur and Sri Vijaya Puram. A rally from the Secretariat to Tiranga Park via Clock Tower and a public meeting at Tiranga Park will be held in Sri Vijaya Puram.
