Sri Vijaya Pyram, Aug 14: Thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days, according to the latest weather warning issued by the State Control Room.
The weather conditions are expected to continue from August 15 to August 20, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely at isolated places.
The Fishermen Warning states that squally winds reaching 35–45 kmph and occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during the period from August 15 to August 18. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during this period.
A Swell Surge Alert has also been issued for the coast of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with swell waves of 16–21 seconds period and 2.0–2.3 metres height forecast up to 8:30 p.m. on August 15. There is a possibility of surging waves, and boats have been advised to operate with utmost vigilance.
The Farmer Warning indicates that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at one or two places over the islands during the forecast period.
The authorities have advised fishermen, farmers and the general public to remain cautious and follow weather-related advisories.
