Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
On August 11, thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are very likely at one or two places over the islands. On August 12, heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is very likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands, along with thunderstorms, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are also likely at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 13, 14, 15 and 16.
Fishermen Warning
The IMD has issued a warning for the Andaman and Nicobar coast, stating that squally winds reaching 35–45 kmph and occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts from August 11 to 14.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during this period.
A Swell Surge Alert has also been issued for the coast of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves with a period of 16–21 seconds and height of 1.6–1.7 metres are forecast up to 11:30 p.m. on August 11. There is a possibility of wave surging, and boats and those undertaking recreational activities near the coast have been advised to exercise utmost vigilance and due care.
