Sri Vijaya Puram, July 31: Expressing deep grief over the tragic loss of two lives at Harbattabad No. 2 Waterfall, social worker and LG Awardee Ms. V.D. Leju has urged the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and the Forest Department to take immediate steps to prevent further accidents at the site.
In a statement, Ms. Leju conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and said the latest incident is not an isolated one. She pointed out that several lives have been lost at the waterfall over the years, highlighting the urgent need for effective safety measures.
She appealed to the authorities to deploy personnel to restrict public access to the waterfall, install prominent warning signboards, erect barbed-wire fencing around the hazardous area, and impose stringent penalties on anyone violating the restrictions.
Ms. Leju also emphasized that the waterfall serves as a source of drinking water and, therefore, unrestricted public entry should not be allowed. She stressed that protecting the site is essential not only for public safety but also for safeguarding the water source.
