Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: As part of its continued efforts to enhance road safety and ensure strict enforcement of traffic regulations, a joint special enforcement drive against drunken driving was conducted on 29 July 2026 at Panighat, Mayabunder.
The enforcement drive was led by Inspector R.K. Mazumder, SHO, PS Mayabunder, in coordination with the Special Traffic Checking Team and Mr. Chandra Shekar Rao, RTO, Mayabunder. The operation specifically targeted drivers of public transport vehicles, including Government and private express buses, as well as other public carriage vehicles, with the objective of preventing road traffic accidents and ensuring the safety of commuters.
During the drive, motorists and public transport drivers were sensitized about the grave risks and legal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. They were advised to exercise responsible driving practices and strictly adhere to all traffic rules and regulations in the interest of public safety. The enforcement team also took legal action against traffic violators, issuing eight challans for various violations detected during the operation.
The North & Middle Andaman District Police is committed to promoting road safety through continuous enforcement and public awareness, with strict action against those violating traffic laws.
