Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28: A Mock Drill on Earthquake was conducted at the Department of Science and Technology, A&N Administration, Dollygunj, Sri Vijaya Puram on July 23 by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), A&N Police, A&N Fire and Emergency Services, and Health Department.
The mock drill commenced with the activation of the earthquake emergency scenario. On hearing the emergency alarm, all officers and staff immediately followed the prescribed “Drop, Cover and Hold” procedure. After the simulated tremors ceased, the Incident Response Teams of the Directorate initiated the evacuation process and safely moved all occupants to the designated assembly area through identified evacuation routes.
The mock drill concluded with a debriefing session, during which observers from the participating Departments highlighted the strengths, observations, and areas requiring improvement. The Dy. Commandant, NDRF and other officials emphasized the importance of maintaining updated Disaster Management Plans, conducting regular mock drills, ensuring the operational readiness of emergency equipment and enhancing awareness and capacity building among employees to enable an effective response during earthquake emergencies.
