Sri Vijaya Puram, July 27: Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram, has submitted a representation to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, seeking urgent inspection and completion of the long-abandoned Community Hall at Panchawati Village.
The Community Hall was sanctioned under the MPLADS Fund during the tenure of former Member of Parliament Mr. Manoranjan Bhakta (2004–2009). Although nearly 80% of the construction work was completed, the project was left unfinished due to unknown reasons and has remained abandoned for several years.
In his representation, the Pradhan stated that the incomplete structure is deteriorating with time, resulting in the wastage of public funds and depriving the people of Panchawati of an essential community facility. The issue has also been repeatedly raised by villagers in Gram Sabha meetings.
At present, Panchawati Village has no Community Hall for marriages, public meetings, cultural programmes, training programmes, disaster relief activities, or other social functions. Villagers are forced to travel to Rangat or Betapur, causing inconvenience and additional financial burden.
The Pradhan has requested the Administration to immediately conduct a technical inspection of the structure, identify the reasons for the prolonged delay, sanction the required funds for completion of the remaining work, and fix responsibility for the abandonment of the project.
He expressed hope that under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor, the long-pending Community Hall project will finally be completed, providing a much-needed facility for the residents of Panchawati Village.
