
Sri Vijaya Purm, July 19: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands received two national awards during the Chintan Shivir held in New Delhi on July 17–18, 2026, in recognition of the Union Territory’s outstanding performance in implementing the key flagship schemes Ayushman Bharat PMJAY and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The A&N Islands was adjudged the Best Performing Union Territory under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in the ‘Highest Pre-authorisations with Biometric Authentication’ category. The award acknowledges the UT’s effective use of biometric authentication for ensuring transparent, efficient and beneficiary-friendly healthcare services under the flagship health insurance scheme.
The Union Territory also received the Best Performing Union Territory Award under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in the ‘Registry (HPR & HFR) Saturation’ category. The recognition highlights the remarkable achievement of the A&N Administration in saturating the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Healthcare Facilities Registry (HFR), strengthening the digital health ecosystem in the Islands.
The awards were given away by Mrs. Punya Salila Srivastava, IAS, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, MoHFW, GoI in the presence of Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, IAS, CEO, National Health Authority and other dignitaries during the valedictory function of Chintan Shivir organised by National Health Authority. Dr. P.Lal, State Nodal Officer, AB PMJAY and ABDM , Andaman & Nicobar Islands received the awards on behalf of the UT.
These twin recognitions reflect the sustained efforts of the A&N Administration and the Health Department in advancing digital healthcare, improving service delivery and ensuring seamless access to quality healthcare for the people of the Islands.
