Sri Vijaya Puram, July 13: A speeding car rammed into a row of newly installed steel roadside barriers and decorative vintage-style street lights near the Science Centre on the road leading towards Corbyn’s Cove this morning, causing significant damages. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, escaped without injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the car lost control before crashing into several steel roadside barriers. The impact was severe enough to uproot multiple barriers and one streel light, leaving debris scattered across the road. The front portion of the vehicle was extensively damaged, both tyres on the left side burst, and the airbags were deployed.
Police reached the spot shortly after the accident and shifted the damaged vehicle to the police station for further investigation. The driver reportedly told police that the accident occurred after one of the tyres burst, causing him to lose control of the car while travelling towards Corbyn’s Cove.
The damaged stretch forms part of the city’s Smart City development project, where decorative street lights have recently been installed to improve the area’s appearance. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the accident, and no injuries were reported.
