Sri Vijaya Puram, July 09: The Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Police has significantly strengthened traffic enforcement through the CCTV-based traffic monitoring and e-challan system installed at strategic locations across the city. Over 5,000 e-challans have been issued against motorists found violating traffic regulations through surveillance cameras, since its implementation in June 2026.
The violations detected include riding without a helmet, using a mobile phone while driving, jumping red lights, crossing stop lines, improper parking, wrong-way driving, one-way violations, zebra crossing violations, and other offences under the Motor Vehicles Act.
With schools having reopened, the Traffic Police has issued a special appeal to parents and guardians to prioritize the safety of their children. Children above four years of age travelling on two-wheelers must wear ISI-marked protective helmets, as mandated by law. Parents are also advised not to carry more than one pillion rider on a two-wheeler. These violations are being automatically detected through the CCTV-based enforcement system, and e-challans are being issued without physical interception.
The public is informed that CCTV-based enforcement will continue round the clock, and strict legal action will be taken against all traffic violators. Motorists are advised to:
* Wear helmets and seat belts at all times.
* Carry valid driving licence and vehicle documents.
* Never use mobile phones while driving.
* Obey traffic signals, lane discipline and speed limits.
* Do not permit minors to drive vehicles.
* Park vehicles only in designated parking spaces.
* Drive responsibly and respect the rights of pedestrians.
The Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Police reiterates that the objective of CCTV-based enforcement is not merely to issue challans but to promote responsible driving behaviour, reduce road accidents, and save precious lives. Every road user has a shared responsibility in making our roads safer for children, pedestrians, commuters and visitors.
