
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 1: The Regional News Unit (RNU) of Akashvani Sri Vijaya Puram today celebrated its 51st Foundation Day, marking 51 years of dedicated news broadcasting. The Regional News Unit was established on 1st July 1975.
Speaking on the occasion, dignitaries highlighted Akashvani’s longstanding contribution to public service through information, education and entertainment. The event was attended by Deputy Director General C. Subba Rao, Deputy Director D. Narasimha, Assistant Director (Hindi Section) Deepak Kumar Tiwari, Assistant Director (Programme) Meena Prakash, along with other officers and staff members.
The chief guest, retired News Reader Rakesh Chandra Lal, said that Akashvani has consistently served as a trusted source of information, particularly during disasters and emergency situations. He also noted that Akashvani Sri Vijaya Puram has played a significant role in promoting the islands’ culture, languages, folk traditions and local talent at the national level.
On the occasion, officials appreciated the contributions of both serving and former employees and reaffirmed their commitment to broadcasting programmes and news that promote public welfare, development and the preservation of the islands’ rich cultural heritage.
The programme was coordinated and conducted by Officer-in-Charge of the Regional News Unit, Ankit Kulshreshtha, who welcomed the guests and staff members. He highlighted the unit’s glorious 51-year journey and reiterated its commitment to delivering impartial, reliable and people-centric news.
The celebration concluded with staff members sharing the achievements of Akashvani Sri Vijaya Puram and pledging to continue providing listeners with high-quality, credible and impactful news and programmes in the years ahead.
