Sri Vijaya Puram, June 30:The State Control Room, Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, has issued a weather advisory based on the latest forecast received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, warning of adverse weather conditions across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the next seven days.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places over the Islands on July 1, July 3 and July 4. On July 2, isolated places may also experience heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The IMD has also issued a fishermen’s warning, stating that squally winds reaching 40–50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast from July 01 to July 4. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
A swell surge alert has also been issued for the Andaman & Nicobar coast, with wave periods ranging between 15 and 18 seconds and wave heights of 1.9 to 2.1 metres, expected up to the night of July 1. Boat operators and coastal residents have been advised to remain vigilant.
The advisory further mentions that farmers should also remain alert, as thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall may affect agricultural activities during the forecast period. The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in the prevailing weather conditions.
