Port Blair, Jun 18: Raising the issue of transfer policy for teachers once again, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the lone Member of Parliament of A & N Islands today demanded amendment of present transfer policy of teachers in Southern Group of Islands (Zone I & Zone II).
Addressing a press conference at Port Blair, Mr. B.P Ray, Member of Parliament today said that he has written a letter to the Lt. Governor and demanded to amend the transfer policy of teachers in Southern Group of Islands (Zone I & II) and also demand to extend the same policy for remote Islands of North and Middle Andaman and Forest Encroachment Schools.
Informing the media about the 10 months transfer policy Mr. Ray added that Andaman and Nicobar Administration issued notification vide No. 222 Dated: 05.12.2001 regarding Teachers Transfer policy for Southern Group of Islands, which has two zones Zone I and Zone II but this policy is presently not followed in Southern Group of Islands.
Mr. Ray also informed the media that another notification issued by the Administration dated 09.09.2003 said that the teachers who attained the age of 55 years or above shall be considered for their desired place of posting taking into account to their interest as far as possible subject to availability of vacancy but this policy is also not implemented.
Mr. Ray also informed that another transfer policy was issued by the administration on 12.04.2005 stating that the “Teaching staffs shall, however be posted to these Islands for a period of ten months at a stretch to coincide with academic year to facilitate community in teaching to the students by same teacher. So far as tribal staffs in Andaman are concerned they will be posted as per their willingness, to their native Islands.”
Comparing with the transfer policy of the other departments such as the transfer policy of the police, Mr. Ray said that the education department should review its transfer policy and introduce the ten months transfer policy for teachers in southern group of Islands.
