
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: The MGNREGA Employees Association continued its indefinite strike for the third consecutive day on 25 June 2026 from 9:00 AM onwards in front of the Directorate of Rural Development, PRIs & ULBs, Marine Hill, Sri Vijaya Puram, as no positive response has been received from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration regarding their long-pending demands. The employees are seeking enhancement of consolidated salaries, a 5% annual increment, provision of TA/DA facilities, and EPF coverage for all categories of employees working under MGNREGA.
MGNREGA employees continued their peaceful protest and apprised media personnel visiting the protest site of their grievances and long-pending demands. During the interaction, it was informed that the proposal for revision of salaries of MGNREGA contractual employees has been forwarded for additional financial approval to the Additional Secretary (UT), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi. The proposal reportedly includes a 45% enhancement in salaries, EPF contributions as per Government norms, and Hard Area Allowance for employees posted in the Nicobar District.
The employees reiterated that they have been continuously pursuing their genuine demands through peaceful and democratic means.
The Association has demanded the revision of monthly consolidated salaries to ₹50,000 for Programme Officers, ₹45,000 for Assistant Engineers, ₹40,000 for Accountants, and ₹35,000 for all other staff categories. In addition, they have sought a 5% annual increment, TA/DA facilities as per Government norms, and EPF coverage for all MGNREGA employees.
The Association further stated that the indefinite strike will continue until the Andaman & Nicobar Administration accepts and fulfils the legitimate demands of the MGNREGA employees.
