
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25: Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram, has appealed to the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands for immediate intervention regarding the ongoing peaceful protest of MGNREGA employees.
In his representation, the Pradhan highlighted that MGNREGA employees have been serving rural communities across the Islands since 2008 and are playing a vital role in the implementation of MGNREGA, e-Gram Swaraj Portal, Viksit Bharat Gram Panchayat (VBGP) initiatives, social audits, asset creation, geo-tagging, NMMS monitoring and various rural development programmes.
The Pradhan emphasized that the employees have been conducting their protest peacefully, democratically and with utmost discipline since 23rd June 2026 at the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, Sri Vijaya Puram. Despite rendering 15 to 18 years of dedicated service, their salary revision proposal submitted in 2023 remains pending.
The representation seeks immediate approval of the salary revision proposal, annual increments, EPF benefits, health insurance and improved service conditions.
