Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24:Self-nominations have been invited from school teachers for National Teachers Award 2026 to be presented on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on 5th September, 2026. The purpose of this award is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to recognize the exceptional contributions of teachers who, through their dedication, innovation and commitment, have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students and thereby contributed to nation building. This award has been started with the objective of raising the prestige of teachers and giving public recognition to the meritorius services of outstanding teachers working in primary, middle and higher secondary schools.
All school teachers and heads of schools working in recognized primary/middle/high/higher secondary schools run by State Govt./UT Administration, local bodies, aided by State Govt./UT Administration, Central Government Schools, schools run by Ministry of Defence and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) run by Ministry of Tribal Affairs and school affiliated to CBSE or CISCE are eligible for consideration for the award.
Normally retired teachers are not eligible for the award but those who have served a part of this calendar year are eligible (at least four months i.e, upto 30th April in the year to which national awards relate) may be considered if they fulfil all other conditions.
Teachers/headmaster should not have indulged in tuitions, contractual teachers and Shiksha Mitras Educational Administrators, Inspectors of Education, staff of Training Institutes, are not eligible for the award.
Registrations for the self-nomination by teachers on the online web portal http://nationalawardstoteachers.education.gov.in is open from 15.06.2026 and last date for the same is 10.07.2026. However, the final submission of self-nomination is 13.07.2026.
