Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24: In observance of Anti-Drug Awareness Week, a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee of South Andaman District was convened on 23rd June, 2026 under the chairmanship of Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, District Magistrate, South Andaman District. The meeting underscored the growing need for a coordinated, sustained and multi-stakeholder response to address the challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the District.
During the meeting, emphasis was laid on strengthening and institutionalizing comprehensive awareness campaigns aimed at educating communities about the far-reaching social, health and economic consequences of drug abuse. Stakeholders deliberated on various strategies to enhance public outreach, particularly among youth and other vulnerable sections of society with the objective of fostering greater awareness, resilience and community participation in the fight against drug abuse.
The District Magistrate directed all stakeholders to further strengthen inter-agency coordination, promote collaborative partnerships and adopt a unified approach to effectively combat the drug menace. The discussions also highlighted the importance of expanding the reach and impact of awareness initiatives, reinforcing enforcement mechanisms and ensuring timely sharing of intelligence and information among all concerned agencies.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the collective commitment of all stakeholders to intensify awareness, prevention and enforcement efforts through sustained coordination and collaborative action with the shared goal of curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district.
