Rangat, June 15: A fisherman from Tika Dera village in Kaushalya Nagar lost his life after reportedly falling into a creek while returning from a fishing trip near Shyamkund in the Bakultala area.
According to information available, Bidhan Das (38) a resident of Tika Dera, had gone fishing along with two fellow fishermen at around 8 p.m. on June 14, 2026. The incident occurred during the return journey in the early hours of the next morning when Bidhan, who was reportedly handling the dinghy, accidentally fell into the water.
On noticing his disappearance, his companions immediately initiated a search operation. A nearby fishing dinghy also joined the efforts to locate him. After a prolonged search, the fishermen managed to recover him from the creek, which is known to be inhabited by crocodiles.
The rescuers made attempts to revive him by administering first aid and trying to expel water from his body. However, despite their efforts, he did not respond.
Following the recovery of the body, necessary legal formalities were completed and the deceased was taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat, where a post-mortem examination was conducted.
Family members informed the authorities that Bidhan Das had a history of seizure disorder. The information was also confirmed by his father during the course of the inquiry.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
