Port Blair, June 16: A conference of Chotanagpuri Adivasi was convened today in the Dr Ambedkar Auditorium Hall under the banner of Congress Party, which was participated by a large number of Adivasis right from Diglipur to Campbell Bay.
The conference was organized under the leadership of Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President which was inaugurated and presided by the Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Dr Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the burning issues of Chotanagpuri Adivasis and to consider the ways and means to lift their standard of living, socially and economically.
It was accepted that this Adivasis have contributed their tireless services in the development of these islands and deserve special consideration in redressal of their issues.
Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his speech informed the community that he has already taken up their issues, times and again with the Govt of India and has also recently discussed about their status with the Union Home Minister, which now only requires persuasion.
Dr Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu urged the community to stand united and has assured the community that he will pursue their issues with the Govt of India which he hoped would be resolved.
Dr Pradeep has also suggested that Ranchi origin of AN Islands should demand quota of MBBS and Engineering seats from the Jharkhand Government for their children.
Mrs Jaya Prabha, Vice President, Kurma Rao, Sabsitian Tirkey, Sylvestar Bhengra, Mrs Colostika, and many others also spoke on the occassion. Hamid Ali, Vice President PCC, Abala Samaddar, ZP Adhaksha, Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, Social Welfare Board, Chairperson PBMC PB Murugan, and other senior leaders were also present in the conference. Mashis Dungdung welcomed the gathering while Mrs Shanta Singh, Prez Mahila Congress, proposed vote of thanks. RV Reddy, Dist Prez, DCC conducted the conference.
