Sri Vijaya Puram, June 10: On 08 June 2026: Mr. Manojit Halder, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Harinagar, met Mr. Debabrata Basantia, the newly posted Director of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, and felicitated him with a shawl as a mark of respect and welcome.
During the meeting, the Pradhan raised several important issues concerning the farmers and agricultural sector under Gram Panchayat Harinagar. He first requested the Director to provide suitable compensation to farmers who have suffered losses due to recent heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
The Pradhan also highlighted the acute shortage of manpower in the Agriculture Department and demanded the posting of a Tractor Driver at Gram Panchayat Harinagar. He informed the Director that following the transfer of the previous Tractor Driver, no substitute has been posted, causing inconvenience to local farmers.
Further, Mr. Halder requested the allotment of a tractor to Gram Panchayat Harinagar or, alternatively, the provision of tractors from the Agriculture Department to farmers on a rental basis to facilitate agricultural activities. He also raised issues relating to the timely supply of fertilizers and quality seeds, along with other matters concerning agricultural development in the Panchayat area.
The Director gave a patient hearing to all the issues placed before him and assured the Pradhan that all genuine demands and grievances would be examined and addressed at the earliest possible opportunity.
