Sri Vijaya Puram, June 9: A woman sustained severe burn injuries in a shocking incident reported from the Garacharma area, near Sultan Bakery, this morning, following an alleged act of violence involving flammable liquid, sources said.
The victim, identified as Ripa, 27 years, was residing on rent with her children, along with a man identified as Kamal. According to information gathered during investigation, the duo had been living together for the past few months and were known to have frequent altercations over domestic issues.
As per preliminary findings, an argument reportedly took place earlier in the day over a minor issue, after which Ripa allegedly expressed her intention to leave the house. It is alleged that during the altercation, Kamal poured a flammable substance, suspected to be diesel, on her belongings and later set her on fire when she did not comply.
The victim’s cries alerted neighbours, who rushed to the spot. The fire was reportedly extinguished with the help of individuals present at the scene before emergency services were informed. Police personnel soon reached the location and shifted victim to Garacharma Hospital, for medical assistance.

The accused, Kamal, was arrested from the spot. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and further investigation is underway.
