Mayabunder, June 8: The Gram Panchayat Pradhan of Pahalgaon Panchayat has alleged that he was assaulted by a group of individuals after repeatedly raising complaints before government authorities regarding alleged illegal activities in his area. Acting on the complaint, Mayabunder Police have reportedly arrested three people till now, while further investigation into the case and related allegations is continuing.
According to a complaint submitted to the Station House Officer of Mayabunder Police Station by Mr. Sibananda Bairagi, Gram Pradhan of Pahalgaon, he had been receiving repeated complaints from local residents regarding the alleged activities of certain persons residing in Tugapur Ward No. 3 (Madhu Tikrey).
In his complaint, Mr. Bairagi alleged that local residents had informed him about the suspected illegal sale of liquor and narcotic substances in the area. He further claimed that some individuals were allegedly involved in encroachment upon government revenue land, unauthorized construction and the procurement of official documents through fraudulent means.
The Pradhan stated that he had previously submitted representations to various authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman and local police officials, seeking verification of documents and investigation into the alleged activities. He further stated that fresh written representations were submitted on June 2 and June 3 highlighting allegations relating to illegal liquor sales, suspected narcotics activities, encroachment on government land and other issues requiring investigation.
The complaint also sought inspection of a premises operating under the name “Savita Chicken Centre” at Tugapur Ward No. 3, which, according to the complainant, required verification by the competent authorities.
According to Mr. Bairagi’s statement, the incident occurred today morning at around 9 a.m. while he was travelling towards a bank. He alleged that when he reached the Lal Tikrey area, a vehicle blocked his path. He claimed that Satinder Bahadur, Sanjib Bahadur and Satish Bahadur got out of the vehicle and assaulted him using stones, sticks and fists.
The complainant alleged that he sustained injuries to his chest, face, eyes, lips, hands and legs and that the window glass of his vehicle was damaged during the incident. He further stated that local residents and police personnel arrived at the spot after hearing his cries for help and intervened, preventing further assault.
Mr. Bairagi has alleged that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the complaints he had submitted to authorities regarding the alleged illegal activities. He has sought an independent and impartial investigation into not only the assault but also the allegations relating to illegal liquor sales, suspected narcotics trafficking, encroachment of government land and the legality of certain official documents.
Later while talking to Andaman Sheekha Correspondent from Hospital he said that he is under medical carea. He added that was attacked when he was going towards bank and was cornered at an lonely area.
Sources informed that, based on the complaint and subsequent inquiry, three accused persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault. The investigation remains underway, and authorities are examining all aspects of the case, including the allegations raised by the complainant.
Police have not yet disclosed further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
