Sri Vijaya Puram, June 01: Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram, has submitted a representation to the Prime Minister of India and the union Health minister seeking the urgent restoration of the ANISHI Health Scheme for the residents of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The representation highlights that after the discontinuation of ANISHI, many poor families, labourers, senior citizens and low-income Islanders are facing difficulties in accessing affordable healthcare and treatment on the mainland. It also points out that the unique geographical challenges of the Islands require a dedicated healthcare support mechanism beyond existing schemes.
The Pradhan has urged the Government of India to revive ANISHI or introduce a special healthcare package for Islanders to ensure timely treatment, financial security and better healthcare access for all residents of Middle Andaman.
