Sri Vijaya Puram, May 31: The Agro-Meteorological Field Unit (AMFU), ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, in collaboration with India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued a weather-based agro advisory for Andaman & Nicobar Islands valid from 30th May to 3rd June, 2026. According to the forecast, South Andaman and Nicobar are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds during the period. Farmers have been advised to avoid field operations during thunderstorms and ensure proper drainage in crop fields to prevent waterlogging.
Considering the onset of kharif season, farmers are advised to collect quality paddy seeds from ICAR-CIARI or the Department of Agriculture and prepare raised nursery beds with proper drainage for rice cultivation. Banana growers should provide support to fruiting plants to avoid wind damage, while vegetable and spice growers are advised to maintain drainage and avoid spraying during rainy periods. Livestock owners are advised to keep animals in safe shelters away from trees or weak structures and maintain clean drinking water and dry feed arrangements.
