
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), A & N Islands, Brookshabad, conducted a series of inclusive and skill-oriented Summer Camp activities for Divyang children during the ongoing summer holidays with the objective of promoting therapy, learning, independence, confidence and joyful participation among children with special needs.
As part of the Summer Camp, CRC A & N Islands, in association with PANKH NGO, successfully organized a Hydrotherapy Session for Divyang children at Driftwood Hotel, Haddo. Scores of Divyang children along with their parents and caregivers enthusiastically participated in the therapy session filled with fun, laughter and water-based therapeutic activities. The Hydrotherapy programme provided children an opportunity to relax, socialize, improve confidence and experience therapeutic recreation in a safe and supportive environment.
Hydrotherapy plays a significant role in improving muscle strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and overall emotional well-being among children with special needs. The smiles and excitement witnessed throughout the session reflected the true spirit of inclusion, empowerment and happiness.
Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC A & N Islands, was personally present throughout the Hydrotherapy event to oversee and encourage the participants. The programme was coordinated by the Rehabilitation Officer, Special Educators and Orientation & Mobility professionals of CRC A & N Islands, ensuring smooth conduct of the session.
Further strengthening its commitment towards empowerment through education and rehabilitation, CRC A & N Islands, in association with Samagra Shiksha, A & N Islands, also commenced a 10-Day Certificate Training Programme on Braille, Abacus, Taylor Frame and Orientation & Mobility under its Orientation & Mobility Unit.
The training programme has been specially designed for children with visual impairment, parents, caregivers, rehabilitation professionals, special educators and interns with the aim of promoting independent living skills and inclusive education.
Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC A & N Islands, appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Prabhu, Special Educator (Orientation & Mobility), CRC A & N Islands, who himself is 90% visually impaired, for organizing the comprehensive training programme. She highlighted his dedication and commitment as a true source of inspiration for the participants and motivated students, clients, caregivers, parents and interns to actively participate and acquire essential skills that promote confidence, mobility and independence among persons with visual impairment.
The programme includes practical and theoretical sessions such as Braille reading and writing, finger sensitivity exercises, introduction to Abacus and Taylor Frame, basic arithmetic skills, indoor orientation and mobility practice and Human Guide Technique demonstrations. Participants enthusiastically engaged in the sessions, making the programme highly interactive and impactful.
The Director, CRC A & N Islands, expressed gratitude to Samagra Shiksha, Driftwood Hotels, PANKH NGO, parents, caregivers and all stakeholders for their continuous support and cooperation in making the Summer Camp activities meaningful and successful.
