Campbell Bay, May 21: A wave of relief and happiness has spread across Great Nicobar Island after the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) announced a special sailing arrangement of MV Sindhu to clear stranded candidates and passengers from Campbell Bay.
The special sailing was arranged following continuous public demand and growing concern over hundreds of stranded passengers who had travelled to Great Nicobar from different islands for the Forest Department recruitment physical tests. After the announcement of the additional sailing schedule, many students, aspirants and passengers expressed happiness and gratitude as they would now be able to return safely to their respective destinations.
Congress leader Mr. Gagandeep Singh Garewal has thanked the Directorate of Shipping Services and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for taking quick action and understanding the problems faced by the public. He stated that the decision has provided major relief to stranded passengers who were facing financial difficulties due to extended stay in Campbell Bay.
He further said that the entire Great Nicobar region is grateful to the administration for responding positively to public concerns and arranging the additional sailing service at the right time.
According to reports, several social workers, local representatives and youths also continuously struggled and raised the issue before authorities so that immediate transportation arrangements could be made for stranded passengers. Their collective efforts finally resulted in the scheduling of the special sailing.
However, some inconvenience still remains for passengers travelling towards Nicobar District islands, as regular ship connectivity to certain Nicobar destinations is yet to be fully restored. Despite this, overall public response towards the special sailing announcement has remained positive.
The additional sailing of MV Sindhu is expected to benefit hundreds of passengers who were stranded in Campbell Bay due to heavy rush and non-availability of tickets following the recruitment process.
