Port Blair, June 10: A seaman of MV Nicobar has gone missing after falling from the gangway of the ship. According to unconfirmed reports the incident took place at around 8.00 pm when the seaman was walking on the gangway and lost his balance.
Immediately the matter was reported to the Chatham Police Station and a search operation was launched. But even till 10.30 pm the seaman could not be found.
According to report, the A & N Police intimated Indian Navy and Coast Guard to carry out the search operation. “We have also asked the pilot to take the ship away from the Port so that the search operation could be carried out properly,” said a police officer on duty.
According to reports the ship was about to sail for mainland tomorrow and the seaman was an employee of SCI from West Bengal.
