
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 14: On 14th May 2026 , Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Andaman & Nicobar Islands (CRC A&N Islands) in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) of India under the initiative of Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Vyoshri Kendra (PMDVK) organized an Aids & Appliances Assessment Camp for the inmates of Disabled and Old Age Home at Abhuday Complex, Ferrargunj in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman & Nicobar Administration on 14th May 2026.
The camp was conducted with the objective of promoting accessibility, rehabilitation support, independent living, and social inclusion for elderly persons and Divyangjan through assessment and identification of suitable assistive devices and rehabilitation services.
A total of 54 inmates were assessed during the camp, including 35 senior citizens and 19 Divyangjan. A multidisciplinary team of professionals from CRC A&N Islands conducted detailed assessments for various aids and appliances based on the individual functional needs of the beneficiaries.
As part of the programme, orientation and awareness sessions were also conducted on Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme and rehabilitation services for Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens.
The camp was successfully organized under the guidance and support of Mr. Ashok Biswas, Nodal Officer (Disabilities), Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC A&N IslandsThe dedicated team of rehabilitation professionals from CRC A&N Islands & ALIMCO ensured the successful conduct of the assessment camp and extended necessary guidance and support to all beneficiaries.
The initiative reaffirmed the collective commitment towards ensuring equal opportunities, accessible rehabilitation services, and improved quality of life for elderly persons and Divyangjan across the Islands.
