Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday witnessed widespread celebrations across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands following what party leaders described as a “historic and decisive victory” in the West Bengal Assembly Elections. The celebrations were particularly vibrant at the BJP headquarters in Sri Vijaya Puram, where party workers gathered in large numbers, dancing with job, bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
Party leaders, workers, and supporters celebrated the electoral outcome, calling it a turning point in Indian politics and a strong endorsement of the BJP’s growing influence across the country.
Speaking during the celebrations, BJP State President for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Anil Tiwari, said the victory reflected the dedication of party workers across the nation from “Kerala to Kashmir.” He said the result in West Bengal carried historical significance, as the BJP had transformed from a marginal presence in the state to securing a strong mandate.
Mr. Tiwari stated that the victory symbolized the people’s trust in the BJP’s governance model and development agenda.
He further expressed confidence that the party’s momentum would continue in the coming years, stating that BJP would aim to expand its presence in southern states as well. Referring to upcoming local political goals, he added that the party was preparing for strong performances in civic and panchayat-level elections in 2027 across regions including Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Highlighting the contribution of grassroots workers, Mr. Tiwari said the victory in West Bengal was the result of over a decade of continuous effort by lakhs of BJP workers who remained active despite challenges. He said their commitment had helped the party achieve what he described as a “landmark mandate” in the state.
He also remarked that the political change in West Bengal would positively impact development in regions like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, especially in areas of connectivity, trade, and supply of essential goods. He claimed that improved governance in West Bengal would ease logistical challenges faced by island residents.
During the celebration, Mrs. Sheela Singh, National Executive Member of the BJP, also addressed party workers. She congratulated BJP supporters across the country and said the victory reflected the public’s desire for change in West Bengal.
She highlighted concerns related to industrial decline in the state, stating that thousands of industrial units had shut down over the past decade, which had forced youth migration to other states in search of employment. She contrasted this with earlier periods when West Bengal was considered an industrial hub attracting workers from across India.
She further raised concerns over women’s safety, referring to several reported incidents in the state and alleging a lack of security under the previous administration. She stated that fear had previously discouraged voter participation, but the recent election saw higher turnout, which she attributed to improved confidence among citizens.
She also thanked media personnel for their extensive coverage of the West Bengal elections, saying their reporting helped bring national attention to the electoral process.
BJP spokesperson Dr. Jijith Rekh also spoke during the celebrations, claiming that the election result reflected public rejection of what he described as “appeasement politics.” He alleged that voters had responded against illegal immigration and governance failures, and said the outcome would lead to a “new phase of development” in West Bengal.
He stated that the victory marked the beginning of administrative and developmental changes, asserting that long-pending infrastructure and welfare projects would now be accelerated. He further claimed that the political shift would have positive ripple effects across the country, including in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Across Sri Vijaya Puram and other parts of the islands, BJP workers were seen celebrating the occasion with music, sweets, and festive gatherings. Party offices were decorated, and supporters expressed optimism about the party’s future prospects.
