Sri Vijaya Puram, April 23: In a major relief for residents of Baratang Island, a 500 KVA diesel generator (DG) set has been successfully transported, installed, and is expected to become operational within a week. The development comes after months of persistent power disruptions that had severely affected daily life on the island.
For the past four to five months, residents of Baratang have been facing frequent load shedding, leading to widespread inconvenience for households, businesses, and essential services. The installation of the new DG set is expected to significantly stabilize power supply and ease the hardships faced by the local population.
Informing about the development, Nilambur Panchayat Pradhan, Mrs. Somari Roy, stated that the achievement is the result of continuous efforts by the entire Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) team, which had been actively pursuing the matter for a long time.
Mrs. Roy, on behalf of the residents of Baratang Island, expressed gratitude to the Electricity Department for their support and timely action. She particularly acknowledged the role of Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Power), who recently visited Baratang and personally took up the matter, leading to its swift execution.
Residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the new DG set will bring much-needed stability in electricity supply and improve overall quality of life on the island.
